How often do you get the chance to see an experimental trombonist duet with an experimental belly dancer? The answer, of course, is never. Until Saturday. Continuing their impressive musical programing, the Downtown Presbyterian Church presents trombonist DAVE DOVE performing with belly dancer MS. YET.
Of the duo, T.I. participant and Nashville Scene correspondent DAVE MADDOX writes,
Dave Dove is a leader in the experimental music scene in Houston. A well-regarded trombonist, he has played with many major figures in improvised music such as John Butcher, Eugene Chadbourne, Chris Cogburn, Susie Ibarra, Peter Kowald, Thomas Lehn, Joe McPhee, Donald Miller, and many others. He has worked closely with minimalist composer Pauline Oliveros and with the members of the band Charalamides. This project is a collaboration with a bellydancer, ms. YET (Y.E. Torres). Trained as a visual artist, she conceives of her bellydance performance as a way of drawing in 3-dimensional space.
On the same bill, experimental guitarist and T.I. participant BRADY SHARP partners with clog dancer JEWLY HIGHT. I’m guessing you see a prepared guitarist perform with a clog dancer the same frequency you see a trombonist duet with a belly dancer. Local rockers ACTION! round out the evening.
Here’s a video of the duo. Full details below.
