Here’s episode 102: Moonlight Pineapple, recorded on the Noa Noa back porch on April 6th, 2011. We organized this show around Charlie and Chris Rauh’s visit back to Nashville from New York City and DC respectively. We did two improvs that night, the first with a set group of participants, and the second, a free for all tag team with a who’s who of the Nashville avant garde music community. Episode 101 featured the first. You’re about to hear the second.

Since this was nearly two years ago and it featured so many people, to be honest, I can’t completely remember everyone who played on it. But I’m pretty sure that it featured Randy Hunt, Rhendi Greenwell, Tim Norton, Charlie Rauh, Chris Rauh, Sarah Robey, Chris Murray, Craig Schenker, Jamison Sevits, and Tommy Stangroom. I apologize if I forgot anyone. I did the recording, live mixing, editing, and mastering.

The idea for this was that any participant could walk off at any time and tag in someone in the audience to replace him or her. There are some really nice moments on this. Thanks for listening!

Here’s Theatre Intangible episode 101: Restless Mariner, recorded on the Noa Noa back porch on April 6th, 2011 and starring Randy Hunt, Chris Murray, Charlie Rauh, Chris Rauh, Craig Schenker, Jamison Sevits, and Tommy Stangroom. We organized this show around Charlie and Chris Rauh’s visit back to Nashville from New York City and DC respectively. Since Charlie moved to New York City in 2010, he’s been making quite a name for himself playing with such esteemed musicians as Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Rainey, Connie Crothers, Daniel Carter, Ken Filiano, and Hill Greene.

We did two improvs that night, the first with a set group of musicians who came in one at a time throughout the performance, and the second, a free for all tag team with a who’s who of the Nashville avant garde music community. I’m very pleased to present podcast 81: Ghosts in the Hollow, starring THOMAS HELTON on double bass, STEVEN DUNNING on violin, RANDY HUNT on double bass, CRAIG SCHENKER on saxophone, and TOMMY STANGROOM on percussion.

I recorded the episode live to 2 track at the Gallery F closing reception on February 26^th, 2012. Billed as Theatre Intangible Live, the performance was downright spine-tingling. Thomas was at Gallery F on tour, promoting his new video I, a collaboration with video artist, Jonathan Jindra. We were very lucky to have him participate in the improv!

Thomas Helton is a composer and experimental jazz double bassist from Houston, Texas. He plays like a man possessed, lost in communication with some invisible entity, blind to everything but his instrument and the music. Thomas appeared on one of my favorite T.I. podcasts to date, Podcast 9 – Crow Helton Rauh Schenker.

There were several other great performances at the Gallery F closing show, and, as usual, I recorded all I could. I’ll post them soon and link to them here. (Watch this space.)

Sweat Weasel is the second of three special improvs recorded live at Betty’s Bar & Grill on January 16th, 2011. It features Tommy Stangroom on drums and circuit bent toy keyboard, Lawrence Crow on keyboards and programming, and Stephen Molyneux on 4 track loops. Tommy plays drums for Square People. Lawrence makes ambient experimental music using open source programming. Stephen is one of the founding members of the Murfreesboro experimental collective Horsehair Everywhere.

Be sure and check out the first Betty’s recording Milk Vetch (featuring Leslie Keffer, Ben Marcantel, and Scott Martin) on podcast 47. The third improv featuring Lazer Slut and Unicorn Hard-on will come out next week.
