My 13 week work project ended five weeks early, which means I finally had time to finish editing the Bring Your Own Beamer Nashville highlight video, posted below. I’m also including pictures from the show and links to some of the short films screened. If you’re one of the artists and your video is online, send me the link and I’ll post it.

BYOB is an idea by Rafaël Rozendaal. The first edition of BYOB was initiated by Anne de Vries & Rafael Rozendaal in Berlin.

Tonight at Boheme Collectif: Future Night Experimental / Electronic Art & Music Showcase 09-27-2013

If you catch the 7 p.m. Joo Won Park Indeterminacies show at Zeitgeist, you should have plenty of time to make it to Boheme Collectif at 9 p.m. for Mike Kluge’s latest installment of Future Night, an experimental art and music showcase.

Mike Kluge (my partner for ON/OFF @ Arts & Music @ Wedgewood/Houston) curates a Future Night every other month at Boheme Collectif. The shows feature wonderful bands and amazing interactive art installations. Check the below video to see some of the art featured at the previous Future Night.

This round features music from Circuit Benders’ Ball alum Brain Lesion (Andrew Morrill) as well as Linear Downfall, Meth Dad, Roboctopus and Dotcom. DigDeep LightShow will provide real-time overhead-projector visuals.

Boheme Collectif will be filled with art installations from Tyler Blankenship, Zach Adams (CMKT4), Rhendi Greenwell, Russell White, Brains Bailey, and Morgan Higby-Flowers.

Moonlight-Pineapple

Here’s episode 102: Moonlight Pineapple, recorded on the Noa Noa back porch on April 6th, 2011. We organized this show around Charlie and Chris Rauh’s visit back to Nashville from New York City and DC respectively. We did two improvs that night, the first with a set group of participants, and the second, a free for all tag team with a who’s who of the Nashville avant garde music community. Episode 101 featured the first. You’re about to hear the second.

Since this was nearly two years ago and it featured so many people, to be honest, I can’t completely remember everyone who played on it. But I’m pretty sure that it featured Randy Hunt, Rhendi Greenwell, Tim Norton, Charlie Rauh, Chris Rauh, Sarah Robey, Chris Murray, Craig Schenker, Jamison Sevits, and Tommy Stangroom. I apologize if I forgot anyone. I did the recording, live mixing, editing, and mastering.

The idea for this was that any participant could walk off at any time and tag in someone in the audience to replace him or her. There are some really nice moments on this. Thanks for listening!

JJ Jones stylin' at the Gallery F Closing Party

The Gallery F closing show was a phenomenal night of art and music and a bittersweet ending to one of Nashville’s most innovative spaces. (Note: It may one day relocate elsewhere on the campus of Scarritt Bennett Center.) Thomas Helton and a group of Nashville improvisers performed Theatre Intangible episode 81 Ghosts in the Hollow live at the gallery. That was just one of many spectacular performances. If you weren’t there, well . . . sucks for you!

Not so fast, cowboy! I recorded several of the performances, and now I offer them up for your listening pleasure.

First, we have what for lack of a better name I’m calling “The War Improv,” starring Randy Hunt on double-bass, Chris Murray on sax, Craig Schenker on sax, Tommy Stangroom on drums, and yours truly on samples. Craig Schenker conceived this structured improv around the Gallery F closing exhibition “23 Years Without War.” I’m pretty sure we blew eardrums with the grenade-filled finale.

Next up is Mike Hiegemann and Rhendi Greenwall performing “The Nashville Scene,” a sharp commentary on the state of music in Music City. Rhendi created the visuals, which were projected over Mike as he performed the music. I wasn’t able to videotape the performance, but the duo is planning on releasing a video soon.

Finally, we have “The Fire Trilogy” by Pop Collage, a project by The Human Snowglobe JJ Jones and Mike Hiegemann. Words. Can’t. Describe. Just. Listen.
