Richland Ballroom is quickly becoming one of the best house venues in Nashville. If Glen Danzig’s House was the bastion of punk and garage rock and Noa Noa is the destination for weird, Richland Ballroom is well on the path to becoming the home of low-fi ambient minimalism. Consider the following lineup for Sunday, June 3rd.

We have San Francisco’s ALOONALUNA, Gainesville’s ROAMER X, and locals SPARKLING WIDE PRESSURE and STEPHEN MOLYNEUX. Lynn Nguyen Fister is the main force behind Aloonaluna. Her songs are positively spectral, awash in synthesizers, field recordings, and lots of reverb. For a person so prolific (22 albums in 4 years), Frank Baugh’s Sparking Wide Pressure remarkably never repeats itself, and the luscious sound quality makes me hard pressed to ever call it lo-fi. Frank and Stephen are both a part of the Murfreesboro noise collective HORSEHAIR EVERYWHERE. Check them out on Theatre Intangible episode 73: Cuatro Ninos.

More info on the Facebook event page. See you at the show!

Reighnbeau

Stephen Molyneux from HORSEHAIR EVERYWHERE tipped me off to this show happening Monday, April 16th at the Sylvan Park house venue RICHLAND BALLROOM.

Here we have a couple of minimalistic, dreamy rock groups (REIGHNBEAU from Albuquerque, WAVERLY from Atlanta); an experimental ambient drone band (ASTER from Memphis), and one of my favorite Nashville acts (PINEAPPLE EXPLODE). Check out Reighnbeau in the video below.

NO KINGS Records is a vital part of the local lo-fi and noise scenes. Sunday night, check out an intimate show at No Kings founder Stephen Molyneux’s place, featuring a roster of the label’s many talents: Ben Marcantel’s chip-tuned SUGAR SK*-*LLS, Ryan Norris’ ambient melodia COUPLER, STEPHEN MOLYNEUX himself, and Derek Schartung’s cardboard noise machine MALOCCHIO. Nearly all have appeared on Theatre Intangible at one point or another, most recently Stepehen in Episode 73: Cuatro Ninos starring HORSEHAIR EVERYWHERE.

The show on Sunday is FREE and starts at 8:3opm, on-schedule so Stephen tells me.

More info on the Facebook event page.
