Don’t bother searching for it on any Nashville concert calendar because this is as under-the-radar as it gets. Outsider music legend GARY MULLIS is performing tomorrow with THE REUNIONEERS at John A’s Restaurant near the Opryland Hotel. You might know Gary from his song “Recitation About Roy Acuff” on the compilation Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Music. Listen to the song here. The 2 cd collection by WFMU DJ Irwin Chusid also profiles CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, DANIEL JOHNSTON, JANDEK, WESLEY WILLIS, JOE MEEK, SHOOBY TAYLOR, and THE SHAGGS.
Gary is known for his utterly-unique vocal style and an incorruptible sincerity that oozes out of every pore. You can’t help but love him. I used to play his Roy Acuff recitation on my WRVU show all the time. This performance is a rare opportunity to see a legend of outsider music!

Thanks to an introduction from CMKT4’s Creme Dementia, Theatre Intangible managed to get Gary on an improv! We recorded the set a few hours ago with T.I. regulars Jamison Sevitts and John Westbury and newcomers Reagan and Eric. Look for the podcast this weekend!
