Boston area violinist and electronic improvisor MORGAN EVANS-WEILER will perform at Noa Noa on Friday, June 29th. Fans of the extended instrument technique of artists like JOHN BUTCHER, THOMAS HELTON, and local BRADY SHARP should not miss this show. Check out the clip below to see what I’m talking about.

Also performing are the esoteric synthesis of DYLAN SIMON and the ambient tape loops of SPARKLING WIDE PRESSURE. All and all, it’s an evening of challenging and fascinating music. It all goes down at 8pm sharp on the back porch of Noa Noa.

Before you head over, stop around the corner at Chestnut Studios to see new openings at Seed Space and Threesquared. At the former, the opening reception of “Fortune Holiday,” a new installation by NICOLE BAUMANN. At the later, an opening of 2D works by our good friend MATT CHRISTY. Both receptions are from 6 to 8pm at Chestnut Studios, 427 Chestnut Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.

Watch the video below and prepare to be amazed. Then come watch Bostonian JESSE KENAS-COLLINS in person at Noa Noa this Friday. That’s all I’ll say. The video speaks for itself.

Theatre Intangible participant BRADY SHARP will also perform an experimental set on modified guitar. Other surprise guests may also appear and perform. (Probably not Jack White.)

Microwave Windows

Keeping up the momentum, I present podcast 83: Hardon Collider and Microwave Windows Artist Showcase!

Experimental bands MICROWAVE WINDOWS, HARDON COLLIDER, MU, ASHOCHIOUS, and JEREMY BENNETT played Noa Noa in Nashville on Friday the 13th, April 2012. Last week, we release an interview with Mu’s Douglas Lucas and the Noa Noa sets from Mu and Ashochious. This episode features an interview with Hardon Collider’s Brendan Muccillo and Microwave Window’s Brandon Able as well as their Noa Noa sets. Soon, we’ll release the giant head of this audio Voltron: the live improv featuring all four bands!

We recorded the interview the day after the concert on my back porch. It’s all over the place in the best sense of the term. Brandon, Brendan, and I talk about their upcoming gigs at the Louisville Experimental Festival; ELECTRIC INERTIA; the experimental scenes in Cincinnati, San Francisco, Miami, and other places; the phobias of moving and not moving; JEREMY BENNETT; the soon-to-be-announced 2012 Circuit Benders’ Ball Nashville; father of circuit-bending REED GHAZALATHRIFTSORE BORATORIUM‘s geodesic sound dome; the 2011 FauxBeAnt Art Fair; and Brandon’s run in with police brutality. In the podcast, we mentioned Brandon Able lives in Lexington. Since the taping, Brandon has moved back to the East Coast.

Check out a few video clips of the Noa Noa performances below. The podcast player is at the very bottom of the article. Enjoy!

Man Forever (photo by Joshua Bright)

Saturday at Noa Noa (house), we have a very special treat for drum fans: MAN FOREVER, the solo project of Oneida drummer John Colpitts (AKA Kid Millions), will perform on the back porch! If you don’t know Colpitt’s unique style of drumming, check out the clip below. Man Forever just released a new album on Thrill Jockey. Buy it here.

Rick Moody of therumpus.net says of the project:

Kid Millions, who, as drummer, is unsurpassed in his generation, finds an opportunity with slippery polyrhythmical approaches here, as if to say that the human drummer is the thing that is most controversial in the age of the click track, so there’s no pulse, no melodic home, no melody at all, really, just the thunderous ebbing and flowing of multiple rolls and fills…

Also on the bill are the always amazing SQUARE PEOPLE and Knoxville’s WHITE GREGG, described by Eric Dawson as, “postpunk, no wave, Beefheart and whatever U.S. Maple and Storm and Stress were (sort-of-but-not-really math rock) are all reference points, sometimes all within one song.” Any band that draws comparisons to Captain Beefheart, U.S. Maple, and Storm & Stress are ok in my book.
