2014_CircuitBendersBall

It’s my pleasure to announce the date and location for the 2014 Nashville Circuit Benders’ Ball. The biennial daylong festival celebrating hardware hacking, art, music and the creative spirit will take place at Fort Houston on Saturday, April 12th, 2014. The 2012 Ball took place at Brick Factory, Fort Houston’s previous location and moniker, and we’re pleased to be partnering with them again. 2010 and 2012 art directors Megan Kelley and Stephen Zerne return for 2014. 2012 participant Josh Gumiela and Brighton, England noise artist and promoter Geo Leonard will chair the event with me.

We’re working hard preparing the CBB website, call for artists, Kickstarter campaign and more. Stay tuned to Theatre Intangible for more Ball announcements in the coming weeks!

Erica Ciccarone and I put on a live art installation last Saturday at Ground Floor Gallery during the December Arts & Music @ Wedgewood/Houston. We built a huge cube and on the front side projected a web browser with continually updating social media posts. The posts were photos and comments from the fictitious Charlotte Blight as she traveled around the world. Inside the cube, Erica posed in front of a green screen as we captured pictures and inserted backgrounds. As soon as I had an image composited, I would post it to the ever-evolving cube wall.  We posted 18 photos in three hours, averaging one every ten minutes.

Here are photos from the event — the Charlotte Blight images, behind-the-scenes shots and photos from attendees.

The cube with a video capture of the show projected on the front side will be up for the rest of December. Ground Floor is located in the Chestnut Square building at 427 Chestnut Street, Nashville, TN 37203. Call 615-478-1467 to schedule a free viewing.

Oceanray

Oceanray

Cody Gaisser is a big asset to the Nashville music community.  He plays guitar and sings in Oceanray and plays drums in Sherbert.

A few days ago, Cody told me his band Oceanray was looking for a fourth member to do something, “in the vein of sound manipulation/electronics/synth/utility,” so I thought I would spread the word here. Check out their songs on SoundCloud, and if you’re interested, drop him a line at codygaisser at yahoo dot com.

We at Noa Noa house are extremely proud and lucky to be hosting Simon Joyner for the Nashville stop on his winter living room tour.  The event takes place Friday, December 13th at 8 p.m. Tickets are ADVANCE SALES ONLY. Purchase yours at this link. Update: I just heard from Simon that they will also accept cash at the door! $15, exact change preferred.

Who is Simon Joyner? Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and the Desaparecidos called him, “probably my favorite songwriter in the world.”  He’s also one of my favorites. More from Simon’s wiki:

Considered by some to be the forefather of the burgeoning Omaha music scene, he has profoundly influenced the music of Bright Eyes. Joyner also collaborated with John Darnielle, of The Mountain Goats, and Beck listed Joyner in his top 10 albums when asked by Rolling Stone. He is also famous for the so called “Peel Incident,” when famous British DJ John Peel played his album The Cowardly Traveller Pays His Toll from beginning to end on air.

Don’t miss your chance to see a true music pioneer in an intimate setting.

Simon’s new album Ghosts is available on vinyl and mp3 at his website, Amazon.com, and your favorite independent record shop.
