Lots of great things are shaping up on the local music scene next week.

The Square People Jazz Maturity, Power Animal, Pineapple Explode, etc, Little Hamilton, Monday, April 5th at 8pm
Chris Murray’s wonderfully-twisted hip hop/noise/WTF? conglomerate Square People adds “Jazz Maturity” to their moniker for an extra-special lounge-style performance, featuring the talents of Charlie Rauh, Tommy Stangroom, and Craig Schenker, all of whom are playing in other shows this week mentioned below.  Rounding out the Little Hammy show is Pineapple Explode (local and AWESOME), Power Animal (from Philadelphia and also AWESOME), Hello Shark (from Savannah, GA and also AWESOME), and Growth Spurt (from Jonesboro, AK, equally AWESOME).  Now that I think about it, this whole lineup is freaking awesome.  Be there.  Listen to the Theatre Intangible Square People artist showcase here.

John Bohannon and Charlie Rauh, Groove Records, Tuesday, April 6th at 7pm
John Bohannon of Ancient Ocean (who moved to New York last year) will be back in town for a special show with Charlie Rauh April 6th at Groove Records in East Nashville.  Charlie has probably been on more Theatre Intangible improvs than anyone else (possible exception being Cody or Melody).  John Bohannon appeared on The Sound of Teeth and an artist showcase that we haven’t turned into a podcast yet.  Anything these two guys put their hands on turns to gold, so the Groove Records show is a must see.  We’re not 100 percent sure, but Square People and 84001 may also be appearing.

Theatre Intangible Improv with John Bohannon, Craig Schenker, Jamison Sevitts, and Tommy Stangroom, Tuesday, April 6th, 5:45pm
John will be appearing on a special Theatre Intangible improv with participants he helped select.  The timing between the improv and John’s show with Charlie later that night is tight; the most interesting aspect may be how we actually pull it off.  You may know Craig and Jamison from last week’s phenomenal Dracula Improv podcast (also featuring Charlie Rauh).

Charlie Rauh and Ezzy Harrold, Zeitgeist Art Gallery, April 13th
In keeping with their recent string of fantastic experimental performances, Zeitgeist Art Gallery will be hosting a duet performance with guitarist Charlie Rauh and dancer Ezzy Harrold.  In Charlie’s words:

We will do a few different pieces all having the emphasis of the audience being in a position other then just an observer, a sort of communal experience.  This is part of a series Zeitgeist is putting on in which our show is the kick off.

Charlie and Ezzy always put on memorable shows, and the Zeigeist show will be no exception.  I look forward to hearing more about the new Zeitgeist music series.  Perhaps we can score an interview with the gallery owners on a future blog.  Zeitgeist works closely with that other local forward-thinking art gallery in town, Open Lot.  If you haven’t read our interview with Open Lot director Jonathan Lisenby, do so now.
