A few weeks ago, the Nashville Scene unveiled the first round of artist announcements for the Circuit Benders’ Ball, and now it is my pleasure to announce the full artist lineup as well as the panels, presentations, and workshops!

The submissions were so strong this year that we decided to expand to three full days of programming! The Ball will begin on Friday, April 11th and continue through Sunday, April 13th. All festival programming will take place at the premiere Nashville makerspace Fort Houston located at 500 Houston Street, Nashville, TN 37203.

Three day passes, single day tickets, and workshop tickets will be available soon at FortHouston.com. The three day festival pass is $35 advance or $50 at door. Single day tickets are $15 advance or $20 at door. Workshops are $15 advance or $20 at door (if any slots remain). Those who purchase the festival pass in advance will get a sweet LED lanyard with their name on it. Because of the intimate size of the space, we’re limiting the total amount of tickets to 100, so be sure to scoop yours up as soon as they go on sale. (Tentatively, Saturday, March 29th.)

Tim Carey from the space music duo 84001 just tipped me off to a FREE under-the-radar holiday noise fest happening this Saturday at Betty’s Grill. Tim and Chris Murray (Square People, Textbook Punk) are releasing a split cassette and performing. Also on the bill are the Xists, the brilliant project of wrestler Jocephus Brody and his brother. Other bands include Malocchio (Derek Schartung), Brady Sharp, Sparkling Wide Pressure (Frank Baugh), Harvest Team (Reid Cambell), Terror’ish, Spacemen Saturday Night, and Dug. Each band will perform for 15 minutes or less.

For those staying in Nashville over Thanksgiving weekend, there’s a great experimental show happening at Betty’s Grill on Saturday, November 30th at 10pm, and it’s FREE. The event features Panama City experimental improv guitarist Scott Bazar with Brady Sharp . The show was set up by the other two bands on the bill: Buddhist Pill (Blake Edward Conley / Joseph Allred) and Skoolgirl (Stan Richardson). When Scott’s original gig fell through, Blake generously offered him a spot on his. Hats off to him.

Scott Bazar has been making multimedia art as early as 1988, performing with artists such as Paul Barker (Hermes Pan of Ministry), Duane Denison (Legendary Shack Shakers, The Jesus Lizard), La Donna Smith (Fred Lane & the Debonaires, editor of The-Improviser), Greg Ginn, Tatsuya Nakatani, Lloyd Kaufman and Killick. Scott founded Pico Dorado, an “improv arcade” where the contestants improvise to projected videos serving as graphic notation. Check out Scott’s work in the videos below.

Although the show is free, Brady may pass around a donation bucket for Scott, who is currently on tour. Support touring artists and donate what you can.

Buddhist Pill is the psych duo of Blake Edward Conley (Droneroom) and Joseph Allred (Poor Faulkner). Joseph performed an absolutely-stunning set of instrumental guitar and harmonium at Noa Noa earlier this month. (See video of the performance here.)

Skoolgirl is the experimental rock solo project of Stan Richardson II. See below for videos of all the acts.

There are two great events happening in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood tonight, and as the scheduling gods have ordained, you should be able to catch (at least most of) both.

The first happens from 7pm to 9:30pm at the Notable Blends coffeehouse inside Houston Station. Tony Gerber and Bryan Burnett‘s space music project Auroric Dreams will perform to the live OpenGL visuals of artist Josh Gumiela.

Back together for a second live concert for the Nashville audience, Auroric Dreams will be performing live space music during the astronomical event, Neptune’s Opposition 2013 at the enchanting and intimate venue of Noteable Blends. Join us for a cosmic evening of music from Tony Gerber and Bryan Burnett and original motion graphic projections by video and sound installation artist, Josh Gumiela.

At Noa Noa house from 8:30pm to 12am, saxophonist Craig Schenker will perform his final Nashville show before moving to New York. Craig is one of the hardest working musicians in Nashville, having played with Square People, Lyrebird, Four Sided Circle, Arclyte, Afton Wolfe, Lylas, Cenobium, and more.  He’s been on a whopping 17 Theatre Intangible episodes, and that doesn’t include several that are waiting to be published, including a Lyrebird artist showcase.

At his farewell show, Craig will conduct extemporaneous assemblies of past collaborators. The Facebook event page says Craig will,

curate the evening alternating pre-determined group/acts with spontaneous improvisational duos and trios chosen the night of the show.

If you know Craig or are a fan of his music, don’t miss this intimate final show. While there is a bit of an overlap between the two Wedgewood-Houston events, I’m guessing you’ll miss no more than 30 minutes of the latter if you decide to attend the former.
