shadowbody

I apologize for the radio silence. It’s been a busy few months. (Btw, anyone want to write for an experimental music blog?)

I just wanted to plug a show at Blackbird Tattoo on Thursday, November 3 at 9pm. It’s organized by FMRL Arts, and it features Shadowbody, a duo comprised of Cher Von on percussion, vocals, and loops and Adam Koan performing butoh-based body movement. As I’ve mentioned a few times before, Cher Von is one of my favorite performers. If you’d like to learn more about butoh, check out this Wikipedia entry.

The show also features Brady Sharp performing extended technique guitar and … well … me! I’ll be performing “scoop & loop” audio pluckings under the moniker Adventure Bomb. This will be my first show in something around 3 years. This past week, I’ve been on a gear manhunt in my basement, remembering what buttons do, and practicing. It should be “interesting.” 🙂

Check out the streams below and see if it’s your thing. More info on the Facebook event page.

There are many things to do this Saturday, but two events are especially worth your time. At abrasiveMedia at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., alt-classical ensemble Chatterbird will be premiering Minor-Born, a new commission by Nashville composer/songwriter/pianist Brooke Waggoner. Expect toy pianos, typewriters, saxophone, electronics, bassoon, and more as they perform works by Daniel Wohl, Logan Castro, Bryan Clark, Jacob TV, Alex T. Leach, Randy Woolf, Gene Koshinski, and Ted Hearne. Tickets are $15 in advance at this link or $20 at the door. This show will very likely sell out, so advance purchase is highly recommended. More info at the Facebook event page.

Next is the final show at The Rushmore house venue’s current location. The bill features Circuit Benders’ Ball alum Cher Von, Modular Art Pods alum Kyle Numann, and Nashville songwriter Justin Goldman. I’ve written about Cher Von plenty of times in the past. She’s a true original, a phenomenal melody writer, and star in the making. The show starts at 9 p.m., and there’s a $3 cover. More info on the Facebook event page.

Watch the videos below to see what you’re in for.

Cher Von live at Free Form Friday

My day job has prevented me from going into detail about upcoming shows, but I’m trying to at least keep up with announcing them. On Thursday, January 15th, Louisville’s Champion Zoz and Cher Von join Nashville’s Brady Sharp, No Milk, and Satan Pubes.

Chris Davis writes of Champion Zoz on the Facebook event page:

Very much looking forward to Champion ZOZ…a collaborative repertory plumbing the songbooks of State Champion‘s Ryan Davis and the mercurial and reliably strange Mikey Turner of ZOZ, Cross, Ma Turner and Warmer Milks.

Former Nashvillian Cher Von is one of my favorite musicians. Hear her on this Theatre Intangible improv. She’ll be accompanied by local keyboardist Matt Endahl.

Check out the artist streams below.

State Champion’s songs can’t be embedded, but you can check them out here.

Lakha Khan

Another packed weekend! On Friday, October 10th at 8 p.m. Free Form Friday returns to the Centennial Black Box Theatre. This one features Louisville, Kentucky loop-pedal melodist Cher Von and Nashville jazz improv duo Concurrence. Both have appeared on Theatre Intangible in the past. Check out Cher Von on this episode and Concurrence on this one. Dig Deep Light Show and Devin Lamp will provide the visuals.

Concurrence keyboardist Paul Horton has been performing in the Alabama Shakes touring band lately. Last month, they performed at Nashville’s Loveless Barn, and the concert was taped for the public television series Live from the Artists Den. The special will premiere in 2015.

Also on Friday, FMRL Arts is presenting An Evening with Lakha Khan, 9 p.m. at Emma Bistro. Lakha Khan performed last year at Nashville’s Downtown Presbyterian Church to an enraptured audience. I was fortunate enough to record the audio to the show, which is now being released by Khan’s label Amarass Records. (UPDATE: I found out the live audio they used for the recording was not the signal from the Marantz field recorder I was operating. It was the audio from a Zoom recorder someone else was operating.)  Copies of the recording will be available at the Emma Bistro show.

On Saturday, October 11th, don’t miss the 2014 Nashville Print Crawl from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Attendees grab a poster template from the first printshop they visit and then travel to shops around town to complete the print. It sounds like a ton of fun. Participating printshops include Sawtooth Printhouse, Hatch Show Print, Isle of Printing, Platetone Printmaking, Goldsmith Press, Kangaroo Press, and Grand Palace Silkscreen.

On Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Oz Nashville hosts Bandaloop, a vertical dance troupe. Words don’t do it justice, so watch the Bandaloop video below.
